The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Redux

Redux is a new, free, update coming to the Steam version of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. The game was already fantastic looking on the Unreal Engine 3, but this update will have Red Creek Valley looking sharper than ever thanks to Unreal Engine 4. Here’s a list of what the games developers (The Astronauts) have managed to achieve with this update.

  1.  The game now saves the state of the world after every player action which means if you quit and reload things will be as you left them.
  2. On the Unreal Engine 3 version streaming could cause the framerate to drop depending on your PC, well that shouldn’t be a problem anymore so expect to nearly always have a completely smooth experience.
  3. The developers can’t fully explain the next upgrade without spoiling things, let’s just say some players had to backtrack a lot towards the end of the game and that shouldn’t be a problem anymore.
  4. It would also spoil things to go into detail on the final upgrade but the developers say that they’ve changed a part some players found to scary or exhausting without compromising the original version. They just made some tweaks to make the part in question flow better.

Sorry for being vague in the last two points, but neither the developers nor I want to spoil anything in the game for those who haven’t got to try it yet. Just remember Steam players that the Redux update is free and out right now. Here’s a trailer so show you what it’s like.
