First details and look at new PlayStation Store

In the run up to the launch of the new PlayStation Store which was confirmed early March, and then reconfirmed and advertised last week Sony has released three screenshots to show us what the new version of the store will look like. As you can see below the new store certainly looks very nice, offering the same blue tint as before, but also a different seemingly easier to use look.

Regretfully the store will be short of updates in the weeks leading up to the change. “Content will be suspended for two weeks while the improvements are carried out but users can look forward to a special update in mid-April,” Sony have commented.

Furthermore, according to Eurogamer the store will no longer be web-based. It “will no longer use the PS3 web browser“, a Sony source told them. “It will cache all images properly and is much faster than the old one,” he continued. The mystery man also revealed that the new store will require everyone to upgrade to 2.30 firmware to use it. That firmware update may be made available on the same day as the new store, or hopefully be released beforehand to get everyone ready for the change.

One nice facet of the new store we noticed is that pressing the circle button now seems to take you back to the past screen instead of exiting the store completely. Now that’s progress!

Is the fact we are getting a new store enough to make up for getting no content for two weeks? Or are European so used to getting little to download that we won’t even notice?
