Shovel Knight amiibo Confirmed

It has been rumoured, and even leaked, throughout the week that Nintendo would be releasing a new amiibo of the popular Shovel Knight. Well now it has been confirmed by Nintendo that Shovel Knight will be joining the amiibo family. Nintendo made the announcement at its pre-Pax presentation, Nindies@Night. Scanning the new amiibo on the Wii U allows players to play cooperatively with a friend in Shovel Knight. On both the Wii U and 3DS the amiibo can be used to level up and customise the main character with visual enhancements, relics and abilities. Most interestingly of all Nintendo said the amiibo will be usable in “future Shovel Knight games” which seems to confirm that a sequel is in the works. It was also heavily rumoured that Shovel Knight would be joining the Smash Bros. roster but this was not confirmed, although you would imagine it would be quite easy to add him in sometime in the future now that the amiibo exists.

SK amiibo

Earlier this week Nintendo announced as host of 2015 release dates and a whole load of new amiibos including this “humongous,” yet adorable, Mega Yarn Yoshi amiibo who you can purchase this November. Here’s the Shovel Knight amiibo reveal trailer where you can watch Aaron fail to dig a hole by himself, if only there was some way two people could dig the hole at once… oh wait a second…
