Renoir looks snazzy, new Zelda on Netflix?, VG Market tomorrow. So many news bits

Hey! Listen! It’s Friday, and apparently loads of outlets love to release news on this day – before getting stocious drunk over the weekend. As a result of this, there is a lot of news to cover today, so lets cut this pointless intro right now.

Did you see this trailer for Renoir? It is pretty solid looking in my opinion. The game is developed by Soulbound  – who are based in the Czech Republic. They opened the studio to work on mobile games in 2013, but switched to consoles and PC as they wanted to create something more compelling. Now we’ve got Renoir.

The developer themselves label Renoir as a “story-driven noir puzzle-platformer,” which does not sound amazing in itself, but based on the titles unique stylings, there is a lot to get hyped about. The game is apparently running on Unreal Engine 4, which shows that engine can do somethings you would not expect it too. The game is only set to come to PC as of yet, with a console release to be confirmed. Here’s hoping some of the folk at Sony or Microsoft notice the game and get behind it.

On the more colourful side of things, Wall Street Journal report that Netflix is interested in Zelda, and want to create a live action show based around the franchise. I am probably not the first person to say this, but I am very sceptical that the results of this endeavor may not be very good. Words like Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings are already getting thrown around as points of comparison by the Wall Street Journal themselves.

Development of the show is still very much in its infancy, with not even a writer attached as of yet. However, according to the site, Netflix is said to be working very closely with Nintendo to realize the series. It should be noted that due to development being still at such an early point, the whole thing could be quashed at various points before it becomes a reality.

Speaking of retro franchises like Zelda, did you know that the second incarnation of Video Game Market is happening tomorrow in Leeds? It’s like an episode of Bargain Hunt, but with less antiques and more stuff you really like. The core idea behind the event sees a large number of game traders get together to sell their wares under one roof for one day – Victoria Hall in Leeds in this case.

Items for sale include games from all eras and regions, arcade cabinets, retro handheld and consoles, retro gaming books, old magazines, novelty items, and even pillows! It is only £1 to get in, but you could spend a whole lot more inside if you are not careful. Based on my experience with arcade cabinets, don’t buy one if you cannot transport it. Based on my experience watching Bargain Hunt, prices should be haggleable. Make sure to check out the official site, and the twitter account, along with highlights from 2014s event (it includes lots of zooming!).
