Techland crack down on modders, MGS Rising 2 teased, and newsy bitty things

Happy weekend to you. News still happens during the weekend, so let’s post news during the weekend. GO WEEKEND GO!

There is not much worth writing about here – other than it is an exciting turn of events – but it seems Metal Gear Rising 2 is a thing that could be happening. The news comes from the Taipei Game Show (you knew that was happening, right?), where Sony aired a sizzle reel for both upcoming and already released PS4 games – Uncharted 4, Until Dawn and Little Big Planet 3 were all in there. Stuck in the middle of the video, a “2” popped up on screen that shares exactly the same stylings as the MGS Rising logo.

You can see the video for yourself here (the tease is at the 1:39 mark). Nothing more was said, but all corners of the Internet are now speculating, with some wondering if the game will be PS4 exclusive, where as others wonder if this will be even developed by Platinum Games. Others question if life is in fact real, or just a shared holographic experience. Nothing is certain yet. Are you real?

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, Dying Light recently got released – as you know. Well kind of, as it seems printing discs is hard for Euro consoles. On the PC side of things, where some companies are more than happy to allow users to fiddle with their games, it seems Techland is not. This news comes from Reddit, where users have noticed a few things. Firstly, the latest official patch has this to say, “blocked cheating by changing game’s data files.”

This is not inherently bad news in itself, but it also stopped a community made fix for the game (to remove a film grain effect) to stop working – and also makes it harder to implement in the future. Alongside this, Techland, or a company they employ, have been hitting filesharing sites (like Mediafire), with DCMAs to take down links to files. Techland have not made an official statement on this yet, but even though Dead Island had a thriving modding scene, the company’s new game may not.
