Warren Spector confirms Epic Mickey 2, says he “made a mistake” with original
Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, which was rumored to be on the way for a while, has now been confirmed by the AP. The biggest news to come from the reveal is that this time the game will be part-musical.
Warren Spector opened up his chat with AP by admitting he “made a mistake” with the original game – and promises to make camera placement a priority this time round.
“We’ve had a team working on the camera from literally the day we finished the first game,” said Spector. “They’ll be working on it until the day we ship the second game. (There have been) over 1,000 specific changes made to the camera. Our goal is that you will not have to touch the manual camera controls even once to play through the main story path of this game.”
From there, he went on to lay out all the new additions for the sequel, listing drop-in and drop-out co-op, and the inclusion of musical numbers to highlight key moments in the game.
These tunes will be created by composer Jim Dooley and lyricist Mike Himelstein. Jim Dooley worked on the original game, but he is said to have a more active role in conjunction with Himelstein for this new release.
“I’m such a geek about musicals,” comments Spector on the new lyrical direction of the game. “I love the co-op and next-gen stuff, but for me, when a character breaks into song, which they do on a regular basis in this game, it’s magic.”
Spector is quick to add that the game will be fully playable in single-player too. “If you’re playing as a single player, Oswald will be there every second of the game. He’s not just a multiplayer character. He’s a helper, whether you’re playing alone or with a friend or family member.”
The game is confirmed to be once again coming to Wii, but will also release on 360 and PS3 this time. The PS3 version is likely to support Move (as it would be easy to transfer the Wii controls over), but no word on the 360 version using Kinect.
There are already rumors popping up of 3DS and Wii U versions of the game, but nothing official is known about them as of yet.
A video for the game should come out tomorrow once Geoff Keighley has his exclusive way with Mickey on GameTrailers TV in the US.
