UK Sales Chart – Week ending 30th August

Tiger Woods’ face has been on the cover of EA Sports PGA Tour series for the past ten years, but this week marks the first time that any entry in the franchise has debuted at the number 1 spot on the charts. Has clever marketing like this video taken Tiger to the top?

1. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 (EA Tiburon)
2. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo)
3. Wii Fit (Nintendo)
4. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Sega)
5. Too Human (Silicon Knights)
6. Beijing 2008 (Eurocom Entertainment)
7. Wall·E (Helixe)
8. The Sims 2: Apartment Life
9. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (Neversoft)
10. Lego Indiana Jones: Original Adventures (Traveller’s Tales)
11. Guitar Hero: On Tour (Vicarious Visions)
12. Grand Theft Auto IV (Rockstar North)
13. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Infinity Ward)
14. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Sora Ltd.)
15. Soul Caliber IV (Namco)
16. Battlefield: Bad Company (Digital Illusions)
17. Mario Kart DS (Nintendo)
18. Kung Fu Panda (Vicarious Visions)
19. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo)
20. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (Konami Digital)

So Tiger has toppled Mario, with copies of the golfing game selling almost exactly the same on Xbox 360 and PS3. However, the top of the charts is still dominated by Nintendo.

The next-highest new entry goes to Silicon Knights’ Xbox 360 exclusive Too Human which debuted at a respectable 5th place. The two olympics games in this week’s chart are still selling well, despite dropping slightly from last week.

The other new entry is (believe-it-or-not) the EIGHTH expansion pack for the phenomonally-successful Sims 2. This game is four years old and still going strong, with this latest addition including the opportunity for your Sim to become a witch/warlock, and new NPC’s such as landlords, butlers and roommates.
