Watch Dogs

Ubisoft’s new multiplatform title Watch Dogs has a teaser site

Well, we didn’t see this one coming. Post E3 coverage normally centers around which console company “won” the four-day event, but it’s a game developer that’s stealing headlines this year. Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs, a new open-world action adventure title, promises to be the most important game shown at this year’s E3 (barring some unforeseen title that no one knows about). The game looks like GTA, but some of the differences are so subtle that we can’t really call it a GTA clone. For starters, the gameplay promises to be more stealth based than any other open-world adventures. The main character is both fully connected to the online and real world, showing a digital world like The Matrix to be his playground. One more interesting aspect – there’s already a teaser site that exists for the game.

The site – http://dotconnexion.ubi.com/ – has some very intriguing information that may provide insight into the game. For instance, the flash video that runs on the site’s main page mentions that this is “my digital gallery of underground art and music.” We know the game operates in some capacity within a digital reality, so we’re excited to see how or why art can be labeled “underground.” The site also hints at what might be Watch Dogss primary theme: “I am excited about the future as technology continues to become a greater part of our lives, but also concerned by how quickly people seem to embrace the newest trend without fully understanding the implications.” Does this mean that the game will deal with the issue of social media and the tendency to accept without understanding it? I’m not sure, but I certainly can’t wait to find out.

Here’s what we know about the game:

  • Confirmed for PS3, 360 and PC
  • Possibly being developed for Wii U
  • Released sometime late 2012 or early 2013

More details as we get them, but this looks like one to keep on your release schedule.
