Super Meat Boy Playstation bound 5 years after Xbox launch. Free on PS+ too
The brilliant Super Meat Boy is finally on the way to Sony platforms 1700+ days after it’s debut on Xbox 360. It will come to PlayStation 4 and PS Vita later this year at an as yet unspecified date. The developer announced the news on their own blog. Visit that.
In 2010 DarkZero news guy Thomas McDermott said “[I]f you are willing to put up with constant punishment for a few seconds of glorious accomplishment, only to be again mercilessly knocked off that pedestal merely seconds later, then Super Meat Boy is the game for you.”
McDermott wonderfully continued, “No matter what Super Meat Boy puts you through, you always want to come back for more, and when all’s said and done that’s what makes the game so special.”
If you are signed up to Playstation Plus, the game will be free for the first month of release. Here is a snippet from the blog detailing that nicety.
It’s going to be free on PlayStation Plus at launch. That’s our way of saying “Thank you for waiting patiently” to all those PlayStation fans that reached out to us over the years only to get back a “we can’t do it, sorry” response. We love you guys and girls and we’re so happy that PlayStation fans can finally play Super Meat Boy on their system of choice!
Will the PS4/Vita version be an exact replica of the 360/PC versions? That is very likely, although it is worth noting that Danny Baranowsky (the game’s original composer) and Edmund McMillen (the game’s designer) no longer seem to be chummy anymore. Edmund posted the following on his personal blog back in 2014 when questioned on the subject.
[S]adly I don’t think I will be working with Danny again on anything. [L]ong story, creative differences, drifting apart, personal stuff… don’t ask.
So will DannyB’s music be replaced like it was for Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, or is this a wholly different case – as it is more a port than a remake?
This is just speculation though, and speculation is blooming annoying on the Internet, so let’s stop. Although the thought of losing such an awesome soundtrack, and the precedent that it has happened before, is scary enough to lead me down that path.
