Studios Bail Out Of Halo Movie

Variety are reporting that both Universal and 20th Century Fox, have decided to pull out of the joint venture of co-financing Halo movie they agrees to earlier this year. They cite the main reason for pulling out of the deal was because of concerns over spiraling costs (some sources report they have skyrocketed to over $200 million). Other problems are Microsoft’s share of the box office takings, and the signing of inexperienced feature director Neill Blomkamp.

The Variety report reveals that Universal approached MS with the subject of reducing their ‘profit participation’ earlier this week, but were turned down by the Redmond firm. There is some good news though, even in the face of possible disaster pre-production is continuing at Peter Jackson’s Weta Digital and Microsoft themselves are once again in talks with prospective replacements.
