Stanley Parable co-creator surprise announces new game, and it’s out this week

The Stanley Parable co-creator Davey Wreden will be launching a new game on Mac and PC on Oct 1. It is called The Beginner’s Guide. That’s soon… around 48 hours away. If I don’t hurry it might be out before I publish this news item. I must write quick.

There is not much to say about what The Beginner’s Guide will offer players, as there is no solid information about it. Looking at the game’s official website, there is a bright theater-like stage presented with bright spotlights obscuring vision. What does this mean? Are we going to take part in a play? I have absolutely no idea. The only solid details known is that this is a “narrative, first-person game,” that “tells the story of a person struggling to deal with something they do not understand.” Those words seem to position it to be similar to something like Gone Home, Everybody’s Gone to The Rapture, maybe even Cradle, and also The Stanley Parable itself, but this game may be nothing like those – although maybe it is? I am not doing a good job here… Help.

What do we know? Well William Pugh, the other side of The Stanley Parable’s co-creation will not be part of this one. He is off working on something else. The game also wont be released under the Galactic Cafe publishing banner which makes it even more indie than The Stanley Parable’s indie success story.

I’ll probably write something that make more sense when I actually play the thing. Can it actually be played? Some say our own universe could in fact be two dimensional and only appear three dimensional — just like a hologram. Are we real? Am I real? Surprise announcements don’t help my anxiety.
