Spore Developer Labels Wii A Piece Of Shit

During a session at GDC this morning Chris Hecker – an individual who is currently working on the possibly great PC title Spore – has taken great strides to prove that not everyone in this fair world should be offered a stage to air their opinions by reverting back to his teenage years to throw a slue of insults at Nintendo and the Wii.

In a session at the event titled ‘Burning Mad – Game Publishers Rant,’ time was taken for developers from many different companies in attendance to let off a few rants of their own on what they found particularly annoying in the current gaming climate. This is where Hecker took his chance and unleashed “The Wii is a piece of shit!” in his speech called “Fear of a Wii Planet.” He then blasted that the Wii is nothing more than two GameCubes stuck together with duct tape. Following on from that he declared the system is “severely underpowered,” stating that “it’s not clear to me that Nintendo gives a shit about games as an art form.

Hecker then took a dive into the ole games as art debate and said all Wii was here for was to make “fun” games and was not a serious artistic medium. Hecker ended his rant with two demands for Nintendo: First, recognize and push games as serious art. And two, “make a console that doesn’t suck ass.

Now excuse us for a minute when we say something! We realise everyone is entitled to their own opinion and the world would be a very boring place if everyone thought the same thing but to give someone like this a forum to air there opinion can not be helpful to the industry at all. We are not going to label Hecker’s opinions wrong just cause we don’t like what he had to say but it would have been much better for the industry as a whole if he worded his debate a bit better and not came across as a dumb twelve year old.
