Sony’s patent infringements cost US$90.7 million.

Immersion Corp. accused Sony of infringing on two of their patents that result in ‘tactile feedback features’ in video games.

Last September a federal jury in Oakland decided in favour of Immersion, ordering Sony to pay damages of US$82 million. Sony appealed the decision.

On Thursday, Judge Claudia Wilken, US District judge, affirmed the decision, increasing the amount with interest of US$8.7 million. Futhermore, a ban has been put in place on the sale of any infringing product, effectively halting sales of the PS2. Sony has to date paid US$7 million in license fees.

Sony officials say Sony plans to appeal.
