Sony Introduce 80GB PS3 SKU With New Bundle

Sony have announced they will be dropping the price of the 60GB version of the PS3 by $100 to $499 in the US of A, the price drop will go into effect as of today, 9th July. However, instead of keeping things simple they have also revealed they will be introducing a 80GB version of their console which will be released in August as part of a new bundle.

The new 80GB SKU will cost $599, the original price of the 60GB version, and will not only give gamers an extra 20 gigabytes of space, which Sony believe will help in the storage of downloaded high-definition movies, video games, movie trailers, but will also include a retail copy of one of the best selling PS3 games on shelves at the moment, Motorstorm. Sony has currently not yet announced any plans to do the same for the European market, but it is bound to happen.

As we move into the next phase of PS3, it’s important that we continue to evaluate our product line, offering consumers the technology and features that meet their growing needs for new forms of media and the way in which it is delivered,” said Jack Tretton, president and CEO of SCEA. “The introduction of the 80GB PS3, the new pricing for the current 60GB model, the availability of more than 100 new software titles this fiscal year and, finally, the expansion of services for PLAYSTATION Network, will provide even more options for users and will help bring new consumers into the PS3 fold.

Does it seem like a good deal to you? Or maybe you could complain that this time last year there was a $499 and $599 version of the console and now, almost a year later, there still is!
