PSP To Get First “Greatest Hits” Budget Title

We have been talking a lot about Metal Gear at DZ over that past few day and just when you though the news was getting a bit thin on the ground another Metal Gear announcement is made, this time in the vein of Metal Gear Acid been the first Greatest Hits budget game to get a release for the PSP system.

During the Tokyo Game Show, Konami announced that it will re-release Metal Gear Acid as a “Best of Konami” budget reprint in Japan. The game will be coming out on November 17, just under a month before Metal Gear Acid 2 ships on December 8 and will cost just 2,100 yen ($19), the re-release of Metal Gear Acid will be the lowest-priced PSP game available in the market to date.

There are probably a lot of people who haven’t played the first game yet. Metal Gear Acid really isn’t a hard game, so we hope everyone will try it at our booth and pick up the original game before we release the sequel,” commented Metal Gear Acid 2 producer Noriaki Okamura, who made the surprise announcement during an event at Konami’s TGS stage.

Gaming site Gamespot have commented that “Up until now, budget reprint titles were economically unfeasible for handheld games, as they ran on expensive-to-manufacture cartridges. Sony’s PSP uses the Universal Media Disc (UMD), which is considerably more economical to manufacture.” which makes you wonder if Nintendo would (or could) counter this budget range that is soon to be released by Sony with a promotion of their own. It may not happen as DS/GBA carts would sell at to much of a loss if the price is dropped. Back on the Sony side of things we expect this budget range wont stay exclusive to Japan for too long and we are sure Acid wont be the last game to get a budget release for Sony new handheld.
