Prey 2 is still alive, but has not ‘progressed satisfactorily,’ no longer 2012
After almost a month of hearing various rumors that Prey 2 got canned, Bethesda has finally chosen to speak out to say those rumors are incorrect.
However, the publisher has revealed that not everything is hunky dory in regards to the game’s development, and confirmed the game will not meet its previously promised 2012 launch date
“Development of Prey 2 has not been cancelled but the game will not be released in 2012 as planned,” comments Bethesda in a statement.
“The delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards. Prey 2 has shown great promise and we regret disappointing our fans. We have made a substantial investment in game development to deliver the experience fans want.”
“We are determined only to release the AAA game that fans rightfully expect, and are unwilling to compromise our quality standards to meet a release schedule.”
Prey 2 was first shown off at E3 2011, with the gameplay walkthrough (posted below) that got everyone excited. One of the main talking points of recent rumors was that, at the time the walkthrough was shown, not much else of the game existed. If true, then the move away from a 2012 release is not surprising.
