Nintendo Australia… Promotion?

Nintendo Australia has today updated their website, very minor, by the way, but an interesting little addition was a .gif image in the top right corner which read ‘Nintendo Superchallenge’ with ‘Coming Soon’ underneath and in the caption.

The image isn’t linked to anywhere, but I did some scrounging and typed in www.nintendo.com.au/superchallenge , just to see what would happen.

Well, it appears that it is indead a large scale competition, to find Victoria’s biggest GameCube champ, with big screen tournaments and challenges, whether it be smashing DK silly in SSBM, scaling the heights in 1080 or racing through some of the most blistering tracks in F-Zero.

The competiton will take place at Village Cinemas in Melbourne, including Crown Casino, Fountain Gate, Jam Factory, Knox, Southland and Sunshine. It will commence on Sunday, August 1st, and will be held each fortnight at the aformentioned Cinemas, until October 24th.

1st Prize Family trip (max. 2 adults and 2 kids) to the USA to visit Nintendo America, including 5 nights accommodation.
2nd Prize GameCube Interactive Unit and 1 year’s supply of GameCube games (not including 3 rd party games) – (value A$3,000)
3rd Prize Gold Class screen admittance for 25 people at Village Cinemas Crown only (redeemable for any session before 25 November 2004 subject to availability and provided booking is made at least 2 weeks in advance. Food and beverages not included. All usual classification restrictions will apply to the screening. (value A$1,090).

Other prizes include Ltd. Edt. GBA SP’s not available in Australia, which will be awarded at each session, as well as GBA software.

Major Sponsors include Kmart, Target, Cadbury Swhweppes Aust., Myer and Arnotts Aust.

Kmart, Target and Myer appear strange as sponsors to me as during the past 12 months, they seem to be scaling back extensively on GameCube equipment.
