MGS4 ‘Encyclopaedia’ available now on PSN

The structure of Deoxyribonucleic Acid, the special Theory of Relativity, the Encryption of the U.S. Defence Departments secret files – There are few things that are more complex than the plot of the Metal Gear Solid series of video games, but never fear, Konami is here to help.

Via Sony America’s official Playstation blog, Konami have confirmed that by today Playstation 3 owners will be able to download the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Database.

In the words of a Konami employee:

The MGS4 Database is a free, downloadable interactive application that contains the official knowledge base of everything that is Metal Gear, reaching all the way back to the very beginning of the franchise. Including complete storylines, character profiles, relationship diagrams, and much more! The MGS4 database is a great way to catch up for someone new to Metal Gear, as well as a useful resource for any veteran of the series, with complete official details on every aspect of the intricate Metal gear lore.

Rather considerately, the database will also give the option of ‘blacking out’ all MGS4 spoilers for those who have not yet completed the game, but would like to freshen up their knowledge of Kojima’s Magnum Opus.

The blog also informed fans that by checking the EXTRAS option in the MGS4 main menu, they will also have the option of downloading new camouflage and a new music track for the in game iPod, all for absolutely nothing.

These announcements currently only concern the US, as there has been no word on when this database may hit the UK PSN.
