John DiMaggio, the voice of Marcus Fenix and Bender talks voice acting
In an interview with TheFukerton, John DiMaggio has talked about what it is like to voice two well known characters in the world of entertainment, and compared the privilege to something akin to “a double-ended nerd boner.” He comments that at times he “could not fathom” the great reception he gets from fans of both products.
He went on to say he thinks some people are out of their mind for being able to tell who he is even though he is only gets a few on-camera gigs, and is most well known for his voice work. “People see my face and they’re like, ‘Hey, you’re Bender!’ or ‘Hey, you’re Marcus Fenix!’ And I’m like, ‘Dude, you haven’t even seen my face. How the hell do you know this?’” he comments.
DiMaggio also went on to talk about what its like to try and keep the plot of the game secret when recording, and how he had problems doing it with GOW 2. He admits he even got a call from his agent less than an hour after talking about something he was supposed to keep quiet. He does however go onto say he thinks the people at both Microsoft and Epic are “really cool.”
He also reveals he does get a bit tired of people asking him to do the voice a both characters, but admits he still enjoys doing it for the fans, and that it is “part of the job.”
The parts about the NFL went right over our heads though.
