Is the iPhone “freaking out” Sony and Nintendo?

Founder of Electronic Arts and the digital distribution company Digital Chocolate, Trip Hawkins spoke to VentureBeat in an interview on Tuesday concerning the iPhone. Though initially skeptical, the distributor found great success with their games on the portable platform, admitting he had “no idea it was going to be as good for us as it turned out to be.” Four of Digital Chocolate’s titles have already become bestsellers.

“Between the iPod Touch and the iPhone, I think the platform is freaking out Sony and Nintendo. Apple has sold 30 million units so far and it has created tremendous awareness. It has taken ground all over the world. But it has only penetrated one half of one percent of its total market.”

With the recent release of the Nintendo DSi, it seems console developers are already responding to the iPhone’s success.
