Hollywood Reporter reports that Jake Gyllenhaal has now been confirmed to take the leading role in the upcoming film based on the recent trilogy of Prince of Persia games. Gemma Arterton has also been confirmed to partake in the 6th century Persia action as well.

The film will be directed by Mike Newell of Into the West, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Goblet of Fire and Mona Lisa Smile fame, and will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. Disney will be in charge of distribution of the film.

We’ve been fairly fortunate with some our leading ladies,” comments Bruckheimer in regards to the casting of Gemma Arterton. “Some of them have gone on to become major movie stars, going back to Nicole Kidman in a movie I did a long time ago called ‘Days of Thunder’ to Keira Knightley out of (‘Pirates of the Caribbean’).”

Production is set to start in July in Morocco and England.
