Play Star Wars Battlefront this October

The beta for Dice’s upcoming game, Star Wars: Battlefront, is coming to PlayStation 4 (Update on 02/09/15: The beta will also be available on Xbox One and PC) early this October. The beta will be a technical test of the game and its servers ahead of its official launch. The beta will feature three modes across at least two maps. First up is the mode and map Dice have showed off the most, Walker Assault on Hoth. This will be a forty man battle between the Rebel forces and the Empires army, but even cooler than that talented players will also get to try out playing as a hero. Luke Skywalker for the Rebels and none other than Darth Vader for the Empire. The next mode and map featured in the beta will be Survival Mission on Tatooine, in this mode player’s band together as the rebels to fight off wave after wave of Imperial forces. The final mode will be the newly announced Drop Zone. Whether this will be played on one of the two mentioned maps or a completely new map remains to be seen. If you can’t make the beta you’ll be able to play Battlefront when it launches on November 17th.

Also announced on the PlayStation Blog was the Star Wars: Battlefront Companion experience which gives players access to a strategic card game called Base Command. Players can unlock in-game credits through Base Command for Battlefront which can be used to purchase weapons and other unlocks in the game. The Companion experience also lets players check stats, upgrade classes and so on just like the Battlelog app does for Battlefield. Battlefronts companion app will be available on the web, Apple App Store and Google Play when the game launches.

In other Battlefront news despite Sony’s efforts in marketing Battlefront and getting exclusive content for the game on PlayStation Xbox gamers subscribed to EA Access will still get to play the game one week early. Poor Sony. However, Sony has managed to secure three exclusive Battlefront themed PlayStation bundles, two of which include Darth Vader themed consoles. Battlefront’s isn’t the only beta PlayStation fans have to look forward too with Uncharted 4’s coming sometime in 2016 ahead of the games March 18th release date.
