Wii’s Front Flap "Revealed"

Okay it was pretty obvious, but NOA President Reggie Fils-Aime has confirmed in an interview with Game Informer Magazine that the flap at the front is indeed used for the SD memory cards previously announced as a storage medium for the Wii.

Also suspected yet officially unannounced (until now) was the use of other storage mediums (below).

Game Informer:
So will SD cards be the primary storage medium?

Fils-Aime:
It will be one of the memory mediums, and it’s the only one
that we’ve announced.

In March 2005, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata noted that because of the Wii’s two USB ports, “practically any storage method can be used”. Although Nintendo has made no official announcements regarding plans to sell or support USB mass storage devices for Wii, Fils-Aime’s corraborating statements increase the likelihood Wii owners will be presented with storage options in addition to SD cards.

If devices such as USB memory sticks are indeed usable as a storage medium, theoretically we can trade save files over the internet to other players – a great way to bypass those tough bits in a game; just don’t bother!
