Four years left for this console generation says EA COO

Speaking at the M16 Game Marketing Conference, John Pleasants, EA’s chief operating officer, has commented that this generation of consoles (Wii, PS3, 360) still has many years left, and we should not expect a new generation of platforms to be released over the course of the next few years.

We’re at least 3 or 4 years out from tail end of this hardware cycle” remarks Pleasants when questioned.

Christoph Hartmann, global boss of 2K Games, who was speaking alongside him, backed him up, saying that just about nobody can afford a new cycle now, neither 1st parties nor publishers.

Pleasants went onto comment that when the next generation of consoles eventually hit, gaming will have a vastly different landscape, and competitors will approach things in a much different way than they do now.
