Sony Feel ‘Justified’ With Blu-ray Choice

A few days ago Bizarre Creations commented, via a forum post on their official part of the interweb, that some features that were originally planned for PRG4 had to be dropped from the title, mainly due to a lack of space on the DVD format. In fact the biggest loss was that some say/night features were left by the wayside, “you won’t see different times of day per city because this involves recreating all the textures again (one for day and one for night),” the company commented.

Well, now it seems that Sony, with Blu-ray drive in tow, have caught wind of this and Sony America spokesman Dave Karraker has declared the company was correct to go for the higher capacity format for next-gen gaming, and further revelled in vindication by commenting that he believe’s they will continue to be proved right the further we get into this generation of gaming.

When speaking with GamesIndustry.biz Karraker declared, “We took a lot of heat at launch for including Blu-ray in PS3. Now it looks like that investment is being justified. Next generation games simply need more space on the disc to contain all that high definition content. Take a look at Lair, for example, already pushing 25GB of content, and that is a first-generation title. At 50GB storage capacity, Blu-ray gives the PS3 plenty of headroom for developers to fully realize their visions well into the future.
