Chinese ban on gaming consoles may be ending – PS3 incoming?

Today’s exciting news? China may finally receive gaming consoles – no, really. While this news still has quite some time to actually be official, millions of individuals who have never had a chance to own a PS3 or other system may finally be getting one.

TechinAsia has learned that “the Playstation 3 gaming console has received regulatory approval in China. The ‘China Compulsory Certificate’ (CCC) document shown above is ‘a compulsory safety mark for many products imported, sold or used in the Chinese market.’ It was issued to Sony in July of this year, and is valid through to 2016. Game consoles are technically banned in China, thought they’re sold quite openly as grey-imports from other countries.”

You can check validity of the document here on the official China Quality Ceritification site at CQC.com.cn.

It’s important to also keep in mind that while “this is encouraging news for gaming fans in China, it is by no means proof of Sony launching its consoles via official retail channels in China.” Other concerns like game pricing and console availability must be taken into account, as China’s economic situation may not be viable for many consumers.

Thanks, TechinAsia.
