Brutal Legend fans break mass Air Guitar world record

Brutal Legend continued to cement its reputation as the most badass game ever created, at the Download music festival in Donnington Park, Leicestershire at the weekend. Promotional T-shirts for the title were handed out at the EA Hub, a special trailer for music lovers to try out some Electronic Arts games.

Once enough people were suitably clothed for the publicity stunt to begin, the classic Motorhead track Ace of Spades was fired up, four hundred-and-fourty people took out their air guitars and thrashed along.

A Guiness Book of World Records judge was in attendance who confirmed that the Metal fans had smashed the previous record of 318 simultaneous air guitar players which was set last year.

Christian Stevenson of Kerrang, who led the shred said, “That was one of the raddest jams I’ve ever been involved with. The crowd played their air guitars better than Eddie Van Halen! Then they destroyed ’em good and proper. Who cares, right? They can go to the air guitar shop and get another one. Sick to the infinity of sickness! I want a crowd like that at every gig I’m at. Awesometacular – air guitar world records rule!”

Brutal Legend is a heavy-metal themed open world action game, from the mind of legendary game designer Tim Schafer. It will cast the player as demon battling roadie who uses a battle axe and magic-infused guitar to bring bloody justice to a Nordic fantasy-inspired world. It will feature the vocal talents of Jack Black, Tim Curry, Lemmy from Motorhead, and Rob Halford from Judas Priest among others.

Despite Activision’s best efforts, EA are still intending to release Brutal Legend on Xbox 360 and PS3 on the 16th October.
