Brand new Pac-Man game set for 2010

Sonic the Hedgehog co-creator, Hirokazu Yasuhara, has revealed, through Gamasutra, that he is working on a new Pac-Man based game. The title is set for release on the original game’s 30th anniversary in 2010. Pac-Man was first released on May 22nd 1980, so we might already have an exact release date for a game we know nothing about.

We are in the midst of making Pac-Man come back because his 30th anniversary is in 2010 actually,” said Namco Bandai Games America EVP and COO Makoto Iwai . “As a group, we feel like we should do something to make him come back. So, there’s one project that we started working on, and [Yasuhara is] part of it.

Toru Iwatani, the original creator of Pac-Man, left Namco in March 2007 to become a full-time lecturer at Tokyo Polytechnic University in Japan. He is no longer working on games, which means his last title was the rather good Pac-Man Championship Edition.

No word on what this version of the game will be about as of yet.
