At their E3 2009 press conference, Nintendo of America President, Reggie Fils-Aime revealed that they have been working with Team Ninja (of Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden fame) on creating a new, edgier Metroid title.

The trailer that was shown showed that this new game will no longer be a part of the Metroid Prime series, and thus will feature an all-new gameplay and story arc.

A youthful-looking Samus is seen striding around ahuge space-station in an opening cinematic, whilst the gamplay appears to be very acrobatic and action-oriented, with much of the combat taking place from a side-on third-person perpective.

There were moments however, when the view switched to the traditional Metroid Prime first-person view for Samus to do some lovely blasting with what appeared to be an Ice Beam.

The game is to be called Metroid: Other M and is set for release in 2010.
