The EU have slapped a half billion Euro fine on Microsoft for its anti-competitism in Europe and ordered a stripped down version of Windows be made available in 90 days. They must remove Microsoft’s own Windows Media Player so that other software manufacturers can make their own audio software for Windows. Microsoft are therefore going to release two new packages – one with Windows Media Player, and one without.

Microsoft have said they will appeal against the record fine.
