Ubisoft have to settle for No.2 with Assassin’s Creed II. The original game went straight in at No.1 two years ago, and this sequel has outperformed the original by 12% in terms of launch week sales.
Nintendo debut at No.3 with New Super Mario Bros Wii, and also takes the No.4 spot with Wii Sports Resort. There are now a total of three games with the Mario name on in the Top 10, as Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games moves down to No.7 and Mario Kart Wii moves down to No.10.
The next-highest new entry is Left 4 Dead 2 at No.6, doing much better than the original co-op zombie game, which only managed to debut at No.13 this time last year.
F1 2009 launches at No.9, although this version is only on Wii and PSP. You’ll have to wait until F1 2010 for the ‘proper’ current-generation experience. Lego Indy cracks his whip out again at No.13, launching across all major platforms.
EA have launched what is surely to be the first of many expansion packs for The Sims 3, and World Adventures will allow your chosen Sim to explore many exotic locales. LittleBigPlanet makes a re-appearance at No.31, with what is technically a new entry thanks to the release of the PSP version.
The final three new entries are Cooking Mama 3 on DS at No.34; SAW on 360 and PS3 at No.35 and We Sing on Wii at No.36. Sadly this has pushed Ratchet & Clack; A Crack in Time out of the Top 40.
Thanks to all the new entries, there are only two games that have actually moved up in the charts this week; Style Boutique moves up eight places to No.21 and Professor Layton and the Curious Village moves up a single place to No.18.
The biggest loser this week is Rhythm Paradise, which falls thirteen places to No.38.
