Act III: Escape From Monkey Island™!
Melee Island™
Guybrush™ arrives back on Melee Island™ with the ultimate insult in a video scene. He walks into the mansion where LeChuck™ is sitting in a chair after winning the election! Ozzie Mandrill™ is also there and they take the Ultimate Insult off Guybrush™. They talk a bit and do a mad man laugh which Guybrush™ clearly doesn’t get and laughs himself. Mistake number 1!
Monkey Island™
Guybrush™ wakes up on Monkey Island™ and gives up. Timmy the monkey will then come in and make Guybrush™ complete the game. Guybrush™ gets to set his own missions for once and then you gain control of him. First get off the beach and on the world map. Walk ahead until it gives you the option of going to a campground or something like that. Go to the campground, which is in the trees on the right. Pick up the coconut, which is under the boat shack and throw it at Herman Toothrot™ who is standing by the log.
Herman will now remember some of his past and give you a clue, which tells you what item you will need to throw at him next. That clue is a milk bottle. Next go out of the campsite and up to the top of the trees, turn right and go into the nearer side of the canyon. Over by the cactus near the camera pick up Herman’s banana picker. Go into the mine and walk up to the steel door. Open the vent, which is at the bottom of the door, then go back to where Timmy is.
Once back on the beach where you woke up use the banana picker on the bananas, which are up the tree to the left of the screen. Keep picking till the whole bunch falls down. Once this happens take one of the bunch by selecting them from your inventory then offer it to Timmy. He will eat it and now you need to take out another banana but whatever you do don’t offer it to Timmy. Instead slowly walk out off the beach and into the canyon.
Once in the canyon give the banana you had out to Timmy and take another one of the bunch. Now walk into the mines and Timmy will follow you. Throw the banana through the open vent then when Timmy goes in close the vent behind him. Now you will need to take out yet another banana and use it with the latch. Timmy will open the door so you can go in. Once you have gone down use the banana picker to get the weed whipper which is in the middle of all the cogs and stuff. Climb out of the tube and go out of the mines.
Make your way over to the big rock formation on the left side of the island. Once at the top prepare yourself for a challenge. Pick up a rock and throw it into the right path. Immediately pick up another rock but don’t throw it yet, just highlight throw into middle passage. Those branches aren’t there for nothing so when the rock comes out of the tube and you actually see the branch move throw the rock. Don’t throw it when the branch is about to move or a bit after its moved but as soon as its moved. Now pick up another rock and highlight the left passage now but don’t throw it in once again. When the middle rock comes out of the passage to the left of the formation and hits the branch throw the rock into the passage. The two rocks will bump if you have timed it right and one of them will be sent a different direction that the other. Get the last rock you will need in your hand and highlight the left passage but don’t throw it in! Watch the one that is going down the higher up passage and when it hits the branch throw the last rock into the passage. If you have got your timing completely correct there will be a video scene where one rock goes into the lava pool. If not try again.
Head toward the end of the trail of lava on the left side of the island. Go next to the lava and you will see a short video where a monkey throws a milk bottle onto a rock in the middle of the lava pool. Remember me saying about Herman and a milk bottle earlier? Now go out of the lava pool and up the rocks to the very far left of the island and into the church. Use the banana picker on the shields, which are the eyes for the skull above the door. Go over the bridge, which runs over the moving lava passage then up to the altar. A ghost priest will appear and talk to you. Ask him everything about the lava till he lets you ride the boat trip.
Once Guybrush™ has gone down the chute and you see him from an overhead view take your banana picker out again quickly. You will need to steer the boat using the analog stick so keep trying to turn left. When you get close enough use the banana picker with the milk bottle to pick it up. Once you have got it keep turning left because you are aiming to get into the circle of lava made by the rock. This is very hard to do from the angle you are at so if you go back into the church just ask to try again and let Guybrush™ take the outside path then turn left once you get round the turn which would usually take you back to the church.
Once you finally get into the lava circle use the weed whipper on the weeds by the side of the pool. You will now see a fairly boring video scene which is way too long so just sit back and wait. Once it is over you could go back to Herman to find the next clue but I’m going to save you the hassle and tell you that it’s an accordion. Head over the bridge and onto the topside of the island. Make your way into the village and use the cymbals once you are below the monkey with the accordion. Pick up the accordion and put it away. Talk to the monkey sitting on the barrel (yes I do mean talk) and admire his hat then ask everything about MONKEY COMBAT!
Don’t play any MONKEY COMBAT! at this time because you are heading over to Herman first. Head back over the bridge then go up the slope and kick over the tree. Cross it and head over to Herman’s campsite. Throw the milk bottle at Herman then throw the accordion at him. You will now see a video scene, which explains a lot about Ozzie. Once the video has finished talk to Herman about Ozzie and LeChuck™ then pick the bottom option. Put the seal of Melee Island™ away and go over to the other side of the island.
Go into the forest where the monkey is running about until you get into a normal kind of scene and talk to the monkey. Now you must play your first game of MONKEY COMBAT! The moves change every time so all I can do is give you a strategy.
Press R2 to bring up a list of moves and what beats what. The moves should all be question marks at first so to learn some moves you will have to copy exactly what the monkey says. Try and learn all the moves before you actually play a game of MONKEY COMBAT! to win. Once you have beaten 4 monkeys, head into monkey village and challenge Jojo JR. Prepare for a hard battle and just pray you win but if you don’t try and try again till you do. Once you have beaten him and got his hat head over to the giant monkey head. Place the banana picker (how many times have you used this now) up the monkeys nose which is a bit gross. Now throw the hat onto the monkey head then go down the steps. Place the gubernatorial seal of Melee Island™ in the prominent slot to see a very funny video. Congratulations – you have beaten act III but the game is not over yet!
Act III +: Guybrush™ kicks unusually large butt!
Amplification tower
Not really a lot to do here. Pick up the giant plank of wood, which is at the right side of the island and put it in the small tower, climb the small tower and jump on the plank. Once at the top flick the switch and enjoy a good video scene.
Melee Island™
After the video scene has finished prepare for a game of ULTIMATE MONKEY COMBAT! There is no way to beat LeChuck™; instead you have to draw with him three times. Just do this and sit back and relax as the final video scene of the game takes place. When you get the chance to talk answer with anything because there is no difference to Elaine’s answer. Congratulations you have truly finished the game now. I hope you liked it. Check what time you finished it in. I did it in 4 hours and 17 minutes. To find your time just save before you flick the switch then add about 5 minutes to that time.
