PS2 drops to $99/€99 in the US/Europe, no plans for UK cut says Sony

Sony has revealed that the PS2 is dropping to $99 in America – the new price will go into effect tomorrow (April 1st). That’s a $30 saving from the previous price – although you will be mercilessly mocked for being 9 years late to the party if you get one now.

“PlayStation 2 set the industry standard for worldwide mass market adoption and is a clear embodiment of Sony’s commitment to platforms that deliver 10-year product lifecycles,” SCEA president Jack Tretton said in the PR to accompany the announcement.

At the last count, PS2 had sold 136 million units  worldwide according to Sony.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe have also released a statement saying that the European price of the PS2 will drop to €99 from tomorrow also.

Sadly the only statement coming from Sony UK today was “There are no plans to reduce the price of the PS2 in the UK”.
