1.7 Firmware Now Available For Playstation 3

In a move just about as stealthy as Solid Snake (or Sam Fisher if you like that kinda thing) Sony has made available a brand new Firmware update for the PS3 bring the console up to 1.7. When updating you are told of the three major updates it brings to the table. These are:

1. You can now download PlayStation format software from the PlayStation Store and play it on the PS3 system.
2. You can now use saved data for PlayStation format software on the PSP system.
3. You can now use the vibration function of accessories that are for use with PlayStation and PlayStation 2 format software.

When the above list is very intresting we still have no idea how Sony will implement some of the features… but it seems that that is not all the update does. One small extra that has been noticed is that the some of the video thumbnails that once moved slow are now going at normal speed. Also, some people over on neoGAF are reporting that backwards compatibility have also been given a nice upgrade and games likes Gran Turismo 4, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, Soul Calibur III, Ratchet and Clank, Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition, Genji and Rez all now work very well on the console.
