100 million DS units shipped by Nintendo
Over on their website, Nintendo today announced that the DS (including DS, DSLite and DSi) has officially sold over 100 million units worldwide. This impressive total puts it roughly within 40 million units of the PS2’s record holding sales figures. It is especially noteworthy considering that the DS has only been available since 2004, when it was first released on the 21st of November in the US.
The main bulk of sales seems to have come from the DS Lite, certainly the release of the Lite boosted DS sales dramatically. In the last year alone, Nintendo claim to have sold roughly 30 million DS consoles.
The DS will probably experience another surge in sales as the DSi becomes available in the US and UK in April.
