Sega Announce Alpha Protocol For 360/PS3/PC

After some bad times in the last few years it seems Sega are upping the ante once again and presenting us with some interesting games. The latest of these attention-grabbing titles is an RPG called Alpha Protocol. Sega have revealed they will be publishing the game in 2009 for Xbox 360, the PS3 and PC. The title is currently under development at Obsidian Entertainment. They are probably most famous for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II and Neverwinter Nights 2, which are respectable RPGs in their own right

SEGA is very excited to be introducing a new type of gaming experience to next-gen consumers,” stated Sean Ratcliffe, Vice President of Marketing for SEGA of America, Inc. “With ground-breaking new RPG action and an interactive storyline matching the best spy-thrillers, Alpha Protocol delivers a true next-generation RPG experience.

Alpha Protocol will tell the story of agent Michael Thorton, who is described as a talented young agent cast out by his government. In the game Thorton is the only one with the information needed to stop an impending international catastrophe, but to do so means he must cut himself off from the very people he is sworn to protect.

In the game players must determine how to accomplish different objectives, and the decisions made and actions taken in each of the games mission will supposedly transform the type of secret agent Michael Thorton will become. Apparently, every choice the player makes as Michael Thorton will carry consequences for his future and the what will happen in later mission in the game.

Alpha Protocol blends Obsidian’s knack for intricate story, engrossing characters, and significant character advancement with fast-paced modern combat,” said Feargus Urquhart, CEO of Obsidian Entertainment. “Alpha Protocol embraces everything we enjoy about making RPGs from a fresh perspective. We are confident our talented staff at Obsidian will enable us to deliver this exciting RPG experience.

The game certainly sounds like an interesting prospect, so let’s hope it can live up the initial good impressions it has created.
