First Look At Mark Wahlberg As Max Payne

Shooting has just started of the film adaptation of Max Payne, and a first look at the movie’s main character is now available. As usual we are not too excited about the film, as every recent game to film translation has left us sick to our very stomachs, but with some people of quality partaking in the project it has a chance of impressing.

Mark Wahlberg will take the roll of Max Payne, and although he does not look much like the character I am sure we could have been stuck with much worse. Better news comes from the fact that John Moore will be directing. He did not do that bad with his effort in Behind Enemy Lines - although Flight of the Phoenix was less impressive. There is a bit more bad news though, as recent reports hint that the film is trying to achieve PG-13 rating, and we just can’t see Max’s character been portrayed correctly under the confines of that rating.

It is currently unknown if the movie with keep the heavy film noir and slow-motion scenes of the game intact, or if it will instead adopt it’s own approach. However, it is not scheduled to be released until sometime in 2009 so we still have loads of time to find out, and then complain if necessary.

I can't remember what movies he's been in. Shooter?

I've also not seen him in much.. The Departed (not as good as Infernal Affairs, the original) is the most recent thing but I don't actually remember him in it. Apparently he was in Three Kings, Perfect Storm and Renaissance Man which I saw years ago. I Heart Huckabees too, though that's been on my list since it came out. Max Payne is such an old game, the fact they're making a film of it shows how short of material Hollywood is.

Although I agree Hollywood are out of material I think this is a good choice of game to make a movie out of. It got loads of story, loads of back story, and its own distinct style which could be recreated well in a film. Of course, that probably wont happen and we will get some silly action flick instead, but at the very least it will be better than Dead or Alive, and probably top must of Uwe Boll's stuff as well.

I used to poke fun at the whole "Marky Mark" thing, but I have to admit I was taken back by the fact he is a pretty good actor. Here are some of his other movies that haven't been mentioned. Fear- Made in 1996, but he plays a very creepy teenager who becomes completely obsessed over Reese Witherspoon. The Big Hit- He plays a hitman with an ulcer who is starting to have second thoughts on his leading a double life. He is not a lone assassin however, he is part of a team. One of his coworkers tries to frame him when one of his own deals on the side goes sour, and plenty of action ensues. The Italian Job- I dont think its necessary to go over this one...most people have seen it, and I certainly think its more than a decent flick. Four Brothers - I have only watched this once, I have been meaning to put it in again but basically a woman is murdered who raised 4 troubled juveniles. When the four brothers meet up for the funeral they are attempting to discover the truth to what happened. Invincible - He plays the role of a real life NFL player who got to play Wide Reciever for the Philadelphia Eagles because of him standing out during an "open tryout". While it may not sound very entertaining to some, it is a pretty good story. Though I am a big Max Payne fan, I am kind of skeptical whether or not this will be good. He doesnt "look the part" but I dont think that is going to ruin the film in itself. Hope for the best I suppose.

I’ve seen almost every movie he has been in, and in each of them he was great so i think that he will be great in this movie!

  2. just because its old doesnt mean it sucks Ben. Try to develop some taste or actually intelligence before judging by age.

  3. I think that if they wanted to go with look a likes then Johnny Noxvile would of been a good pick for just looks not the whole acting part…but for acting i think that Mark is a good pick i might have even taken Matt Damon after him being in the Bourne movies…but i think that Mark will do a fine job…but i do think they need to bump the rating up to R.

The all-star cast is an early hint as to how shallow the writing is going to be. Big names with faces everyone will recognises with a storyline goldfish can understand are typical of movies made to sell. They even had to invent caracters to be able to add Chris O’Donnel and Beau Bridges into the fold. Who can take a guess at how much these two will interfere.

It’s such a shame because the game delivered quality material on a silver plater. I’ll be looking foward to the indie flim, Payne and Redemption, but not this one.

I think the only good game that was made into a good movie was Silent Hill.

  5. Just like Hitman, completely wrong man for the role. Hope the gaming community’s bracing itself for disappointment.

  6. Silent Hill was terrible!!!!!!!

Jesus - they should have had the Japanese game developers make it. Japan does horror sooo much better than the US. Far more psychology, far less ‘booo!!!’

I will not disappoint…I hope… DarkZero fans or visitors are not to be fucked around with

  8. Max Payne already was made like a movie.
Usually they just have to copy the games style and story and they already have a great movie without thinking a lot on their own.

But I guess they won’t, they won’t make a real film noir, they won’t catch the spirit and atmosphere of the game, they will make a standard hollywood movie.
    That’s not fair!
Now they only have to make a miserable Deus Ex movie and they destroyed all big games with story.
