Rare And Ninty Reveal Killer Instinct Kids
The little people
Following hot the heels of their first cooperative development effort in many years with the release Diddy Kong Racing on the DS, Nintendo and Rare have announced they will be combining their forces once again to re-imagine another title from the past. As you can probably tell by the title of this news post the game in question is the SNES great; Killer Instinct and it will come to the DS under the guise of KI:DS. However, it seems more effort will be going into the game than they did with Diddy Kong Racing as they will be adding brand new features to the game with intresting modes never seen in the series before.
As anyone that played Killer Instinct before will tell you the game certainly does things a lot different that other beat 'em up's and with that in mind Rare are bringing the new idea of team based gameplay to the table. The observant amongst you will have noticed the subtitle' Kids' and this is one part of the new mechanics. The KI Kids will always fight on the bottom screen and will use the bottom section of the series' famous double energy bar. The KI Kids always fight first and whoever wins that fight will give an extra stat boost to the grown up versions of the character who will fight on the top screen immediately afterwards. It is then up to the player to pick amongst the four stats – Block, Speed, Combo or Finisher – and upgrade. If playing in story mode your chosen character will start with one point for each stat and you can add and customize your fighter as you advance thorough the game getting as powerful as you can before you battle Eyedol.
The younger version of each of the characters will reportedly tell the back-story of each of the fighters with series favorites such as Sabrewulf, Riptor and Spinal looking drastically different that their older selves. Although it is not confirmed yet it is believed Automatic Combo will be tied to the touch screen; making players draw specific shapes – in the same vein as SSX Blur - to unleash the fighters trademark combos. Ultra Combos and Combo Breakers will also return but it is unknown how these will be implemented at the moment. A full character list for the game is also unknown at this point but it is thought the ten characters from the original will return along with the Kid version of each character which we believe currently brings the list of playable of a nice round twenty.
April 2nd Update: In case it was not blatantly obvious this was an April Fool's joke.
