Humble Bundle cuts 20% of staff

In a report from Polygon, last week the company Humble Bundle laid off 12 staff members after an expansion that the CEO admits was overly eager.

According to the an anonymous source from the report, multiple departments such as creative, engineering, business development, and the communications department were all affected by these layouts.

The co-founder of the company, John Graham, said the following in an email, “Unfortunately, last week Humble Bundle was forced to let go of some of our employees. Despite strong revenue, and our community surpassing $65 million raised for charity to date, our past hiring was too ambitious and we had to make a hard call last week.”

Humble Bundle originally started as a periodical digital package that contained around 5-8 games that were optional as DRM-free and redeemable on Steam. As the bundles progressed they began to add in tiers of payment, so that those who paid the average would be able to unlock either past bundle games or other bundle-themed related titles. The website has progressed a lot since then with bundles that are publisher themed, comic books, e books and mobile games. They also opened up their own digital games store front within the past year and a half which gives 10% of all proceeds to charity.
