Steven Spielberg’s Halo TV series is still happening, says Showtime

TV network Showtime has said the Halo television series that they announced some four years ago is still going ahead, and will still be helmed by legendary director Steven Spielberg.

The project was initially announced during the Xbox One’s first press conference back in May 2013, with Spielberg appearing in a video in which he described the Halo universe as an ‘amazing opportunity’ for him to create a visionary television experience.

In the years following however, as Xbox released the follow ups to the original Xbox One, there has been completed radio silence regarding the series. Until now.

‘[It’s] still in very active development,’ Showtime President and CEO David Nevins told TV Guide in a recent interview, adding that he had seen scripts created for the show.

President of programming at Showtime, Gary Levine, echoed Nevins remarks, telling the outlet that the Halo TV series was ‘absolutely still in development, still moving forward’ and that he was ‘encouraged’ by what he had seen so far. He did not provide any time frame on when the series may air, but did note that the series is still going forward as a live-action project, and that ‘it will definitely satisfy the fans of Halo and… the drama audience of Showtime.’

Showtime has become renowned in recent years for its slew of well-received original programming, including Dexter, Weeds, and Homeland. The network most recently premiered the limited series revival of David Lynch’s cult classic mystery drama Twin Peaks to critical acclaim.

It looks like the Halo series is in good hands, but whether we’ll see it this side of 2020 remains to be seen.
