No Single Player DLC for GTA V

In a recent interview about GTA Online, with IGN, Director of Design at Rockstar North, Imran Sarwar, revealed that Rockstar is not currently working on story DLC for their hit game Grand Theft Auto V. Here’s exactly what Sarwar said when questioned on the possibility of single player DLC, “right now our focus is on GTA Online which has exceeded our expectations. We currently have all key members off the team that launched Grand Theft Auto V focused on supporting GTA Online in every capacity. The community we’ve been able to foster is massive, growing each day and we have so many ideas that have yet to make it into the game. The evolution of GTA Online on these newer platforms is also an exciting prospect as the power of those systems is going to allow us to achieve even more.”

Monkey see, monkey rob.

Monkey see, monkey rob.

While he says the focus is currently on GTA Online it does not rule out the possibility of single player DLC sometime in the future. However, considering that the game originally launched in September 2013 and the development teams key members are focusing on its online component I don’t think we’ll ever see any single player DLC for GTAV. My best guess is that the team working on GTA Online will continue to do so for the next few years by adding meaningful updates and treating it more as a platform to be expanded upon than most online centric games do. Meanwhile I reckon that the rest of Rockstar North is working on their next full release, be it Red Dead 3, a new GTA, or maybe even something completely new. Only time will tell and perhaps in the next few months you can turn around and tell me how wrong I was.

If you haven’t already played GTA V then what are you waiting for? The game is brilliant and while I certainly wouldn’t call it my favourite it’s definitely worth trying. It’s currently available on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC. Oh and look here DarkZero even has a review or two to help convince you that it’s good. You should also check out the full interview with Sarwar over on IGN.
