New Dead Rising game cut in size following layoffs at Capcom Vancouver

Layoffs at Capcom Vancouver have meant that the upcoming Dead Rising title, expected to be released in the coming year, has been cut in size, with another unannounced project being scrapped altogether.

A statement provided to Eurogamer said that the studio had ‘undergone a restructure’ and as a result, approximately 30 percent of the studio was impacted. Kotaku has reported that around 50 people have been laid off, with the number of staff reduced from 250 to 200. According to Capcom Vancouver, the layoffs were necessary to keep Dead Rising going, as the latest game was ‘over-scoped and under-staffed’.

The unannounced project cancelled by the studio was a third-person action-adventure set in an alternative reality version of New York, a source told Kotaku.

However, Capcom Vancouver were quick to pledge their ongoing support for the future of their IPs. ‘The team is continuing to work hard to support the recent release of Puzzle Fighter for mobile and is dedicated to its flagship Dead Rising series,’ a representative for the studio said.
