Mane6’s ‘Them’s Fightin’ Herds!’ IndieGoGo campaign is live – go give them your money!

Almost 2 1/2 years ago I wrote a news post about the Skullgirls team, Lab Zero, helping out fellow developers by sharing their incredibly well made fighting game engine after meeting a particular stretch goal in their own Indiegogo campaign.

Well, the developers that they shared their ‘Z Engine’ with were Mane6 – who were originally working on a My Little Pony fighting game – Fighting is Magic. Although that may sound ridiculous, it did stir up a lot of fuss in the Fighting Game Community by looking amazing in both design and mechanics. That was, of course, until the team received a Cease & Desist letter from Hasbro for using their copyright. After having spent so much time on the project and almost getting it to completion, they were heartbroken that they wouldn’t be able to cross the finish line.

Then seemingly from nowhere Lauren Faust, the creator of the cartoon show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, showed her own interest in the project and offered to help Mane6 by creating an entirely new world and cast of characters for them to work with. Since then they have been working on ‘Them’s Fightin’ Herds!‘, posting semi-regular updates on their twitter and website. That’s where we are now. They have finally reached a point where they are comfortable enough with their progress that they are crowdfunding the rest of development through IndiegoGo.

So, if you’re at all a fan of Indie and/or fighting games you need to get over there right now and contribute all you can because Mane6 are not just happy with making a fighting game. They are taking everything above and beyond with incredible new ideas and interesting mechanics. Just look at the awesome videos they’ve already begun to post about the visual fighting lobby and dynamic music – wow!
