Konami drops Six Days in Fallujah after heavy criticism

Konami have announced they’ve decided to pull the plug on publishing Six Days in Fallujah. The game retells the story of a controversial battle between U.S. forces and insurgents as they fought in the Iraqi town of Fallouja in November 2004.

Ever since the title was first announced in early April, it drew much criticism from many quarters. Military families were the most boisterous, with many complaining the game would dishonour those that served in Iraq.

After seeing the reaction to the video game in the United States and hearing opinions sent through phone calls and e-mail, we decided several days ago not to sell it,” a spokesperson for Konami comments. “We had intended to convey the reality of the battles to players so that they could feel what it was like to be there.

Atomic Games, the US based developer of the title, will no doubt now be looking for a new publisher that may stand up to the pressure and criticism such a game brings. If they don’t find one, then it is likely the game may never get released.

When Konami was involved, the game was set for release on PC, 360 and PS3 in 2010.
