Write for DarkZero volunteers wanted

We are seeking writers to join our team. You can be based anywhere in the world, even if you have no formal writing experience you are still welcome to get involved.

All articles on our site are produced by unpaid volunteers — some aim to make a name for themselves and go on to become a full-time journalist, others just enjoy writing about the games they play as a hobby.

Why us?

  • Reviews featured on MetaCritic & OpenCritic
  • News featured on NewsNow
  • Industry contacts (review code, invites to events)
  • Your own author profile page showcasing your articles
  • Be a specialist in a particular genre or platform

Roles

News writers – we currently have nobody focused on news so this is a high priority area. You will seek out news stories from press releases, other sites, and follow what publishers and developers say on forums and social media. It is important for you to post a minimum of three news items a week.

Article writers – write thought pieces, interview developers, or write about events. New ideas welcome.

Reviewers – we publish many reviews but still struggle to cover everything. You are welcome to specialise in a particular genre or platform. We sometimes get review code from publishers but still need staff willing to review their own purchases – in particular Nintendo games or AAA titles.

Qualities

You will bring the following attributes to the role:

Writing ability – you must have a good grasp of the English language and have great attention to detail. No qualifications needed.

Consistency – it is important that the site is updated regularly with news and you would need to do this multiple times a week. We use WordPress so publishing is easy.

Proactive – you will take the initiative and have a drive to get things done.

Reliable – if you say you will cover something, do it within a reasonable time frame.

How to apply

Contact us to express your interest. Please include a writing sample (link to a previous article or a fresh piece of writing that could go on the site) and mention your particular areas of interest.

We look forward to hearing from you!
