Hope for Bioshock Vita fades, and a few other things

Bioshock Vita will now not be made – probably. This is the reason.

The studio behind the franchise, Irrational Games, is shutting down. Studio head Ken Levine explained all this in a recent  blog post, It’s an intresting read, but lets take a few snippets to continue this news story.

While I’m deeply proud of what we’ve accomplished together, my passion has turned to making a different kind of game than we’ve done before,” Levine writes in what is most likely his last blog to the site.

To meet the challenge ahead, I need to refocus my energy on a smaller team with a flatter structure and a more direct relationship with gamers.  In many ways, it will be a return to how we started: a small team making games for the core gaming audience.

Levine is sticking with 2K Games for this new effort, and will publish future games under that label. 15 former Irrational Games staff will move with him to form a new team to make these game. The rest of Irrational Games however, is dissolved. People are now on Twitter looking for jobs. Before this, Irrational was a team of around 150+ people.

Levine states that his new company will focus on  “narrative-driven games for the core gamer that are highly replayable.” One highly notable change from the Bioshock days is the promise that these new games will be  be solely digitally distributed.

Some more Irrational Games’ developed Bioshock is still on the way. The final part of the BioShock Infinite DLC packs —Burial at Sea Episode 2 –  comes March 25th. From that point on, all Bioshock branded games will be handled by internal 2K Games teams, kind of like Bioshock 2 was.

Also, SWAT 4 was great.
