Ghostlight needs 1,800 preorders to release Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2

Ghostlight has today opened up preorders for the Nintendo DS strategy RPG Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2, but this isn’t any ordinary preorder, because it relies on fans to push the preorders through the minimum requirement of 1,800 to get the go ahead to manufacture the game and bring Devil Survivor 2 to UK and Europe.

Devil Survivor 2 is kind of in a sticky situation, because Atlus recently announced Devil Survivor 2: Break Record, an enhanced port of Devil Survivor 2 for the 3DS, which is just like what Atlus did with the first game, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked. There is no doubt that the enhanced version will be coming in English at some point in the future, but Ghostlight wants to cover their fans by offering them the chance to play the original sequel. Due to the decline of the Nintendo DS, it makes it hard for the company to bring it over here unless it knows it can cover the costs.

I personally find this super interesting, because it gives you an idea of what is needed to break even when bringing a game release to the UK. 1,800 doesn’t sound like much, so it makes me wonder why other companies aren’t doing the same thing to gauge interest in releasing more niche titles.  Ghostlight states that they will return the preorder money if the requirement isn’t met, which is a perfectly fine thing to do, and I hope that if this is successful other companies will follow through, because I want that damn Suikoden game on PSP to be out in English!!
