Morrowind – The Elder Scrolls III Xbox Review

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is an epic, open-ended single-player game where you create and play any kind of character you can imagine. Be the noble hero embarking on an epic quest, or an insidious thief rising to leadership of his guild. Be a malevolent sorcerer developing the ultimate spell of destruction, or a reverent healer searching for the cure to a plague. Your actions define your character, and your gameplay changes and evolves in response to your actions. Confront the assassins’ guild, and they take out a contract on you. Impress them, and they try to recruit you instead. No two sagas are the same in the world of Morrowind.

Players can choose to follow the intriguing main storyline, or set off to explore the huge province of Morrowind and the many interesting people and exotic locations it contains. Vast cities and remote villages dot the landscape, each with its own unique look and feel. Hundreds of quests and adventures await as you interact with characters and learn more. Regardless of whether you play a murdering assassin or a noble knight, the game holds endless possibilities and allows you to revisit the main storyline at any time.

With Morrowind, the unparalleled Elder Scrolls character system is coupled with an exponential increase in the world’s richness of detail and level of visual splendor. Utilizing the latest in 3D technology, Morrowind will feature hyper-realistic textures and polygon counts, real-time shadows, vast landscapes, skeletal based animation, and a complete weather system which is great because it’s more realistic you can have thunder, rain, sun all different types.

Graphics

Ok lets get started the graphics are not so good they do have a lot of detail maybe too much, after a while of playing you will notice that the characters jump a bit and get a bit jittery but that’s because of the enormous environment, storyline and characters to talk to but that doesn’t really matter I mean I played this and I don’t even care for the graphics I just like the story line which I must mention is a tricky one.

A great thing is; is that you get a day and night cycle which all games should have it creates more atmosphere, theirs rain, thunder storms, sun, cloudy and sand storms and it goes on!

Gameplay

If your into RPG’s then this is for you; you start of as a criminal who has been let out of jail on his majesty’s orders. But there’s a catch; you’re not here to mess about. It is a bit like Grand Theft Auto.. you get a weapon missions and the will to do almost anything just no cars and no Tommy Verceti. The main aim of the game is to become a god of the island Morrowind, which seems hard (and it is). You will need some brains to play this game as well, you will never finish the game as well because there lots of extra side missions to do like rescue damsels in distress, help a naked nord get his pants back off a witch and the one we all have to do, kill the spider in the bath, that is an over sized giant spider by the way.

You also pick what race your are to be such elf, dark elf, nord, human, mage and so on. You also level up whilst playing the game, increasing your stats helping you in the game making you a better fighter. There’s lots of space on the map and lots to do. Another great thing is that you can buy armour and put it on; lots of different armours mean different strength points and how fast you move depending on the weight of the item.

So the main things you’ll need in this game is straight A’s in your GCSE’s and a few years free to play, it shouldn’t take that long it’ll probably take longer so sit down lock your door bring the toilet to you and get a years worth of snacks and your away.

Sounds

To be honest there’s not a great deal of background music; most of the music is played at the main screen and most of the sound effects in Morrowind are usually the creeks of doors, the thunder storms and the rain. However all the little things like the swaying of the trees or the crashing of the water makes the game so much more exciting to play, especially the sound of war as you fight a warrior and the swords hits an enemies shield. One of this games main points would have to be it’s sound effects they keep you tense and on the edge of your seat.

There’s just one problem the voices the voices sound so badly recorded the quality is very bad but most of the time they only talk when you walk up to them when you talk to them it’s just reading text like a Final Fantasy but that doesn’t matter I mean you don’t need to read everything you say this is where that A comes in from your English GCSE.

Lifespan

Well there’s an amazing life span on this if had to relate it to anything Iwould say a turtle that paces it’s self out to have a very long life span. Once you have completed the main game missions there over 100 more side missions to complete which are quite fun to do and you can always keep levelling up and training to defeat so called “bad guys”, or even become a mass murderer running from the law (which can get a little messy). No matter what you do this game is indestructible you can’t really complete it.

Overall

Morrowind is quite well heard of and most of my mates have it. You won’t complete it because there’s always something to do. Instead of worrying about finishing this piece of art the first day you got it worry no more, it’s definitely worth buying for full price because it’s just a great game. It may be pretty old but that doesn’t matter, plus even judging this book by it’s cover definitely makes you want to have this game. Just remember that it’s not just any old Final Fantasy style RPG; it’s got some tricky puzzles so I would say this is the ultimate RPG and I hope that you enjoy it!
