Yooka-Laylee becomes fastest video game Kickstarter to reach $1million

The kickstarter for the 3D platformer Yooka-Laylee has become the fastest video game kickstarter to reach $1million, having reached that within only 6 hours. The previous record was held by Torment: Tides of Numenara which reached it in 7 hours.

Yooka-Laylee is a 3D platformer developed by Playtonic games, a studio which comprises talent that has worked on Donkey Kong Country and Banjo-Kazooie. The game itself looks to bring back the ‘collect-athon’ style platformer that was very popular in the late 90s.

Grant Kirkhope (Banjo-Kazooie) and David Wise (Donkey Kong Country) are also providing the soundtrack to the game.

As of writing the project has reached over £1.2million ($1.8million), and still has 44 days to go.

The game is expected to be out on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Wii U in October 2016.
