EA has formally announced Dead Space Wii, and it is not the remake everyone thought it would be.
In fact, it is an all new game in the franchise, and will be called Dead Space Extraction. It will tell a story of the events leading up to Isaac Clarke’s mission on the USG Ishimura that was told in the original Dead Space on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 last year.
EA boast the game will introduce all new characters, weapons, enemies, puzzles and co-operative multiplayer gameplay to the winning formula. This all comes with motion controls based around the Wiimote, as players control characters from “a frenetic first person perspective.”
“We could not be more excited to extend Dead Space into an experience exclusive to the Wii,” says Glen Schofield, VP and General Manager at EA Redwood Shores.
“Nintendo has a wonderful history in the horror genre and we are thrilled to build on that tradition with Dead Space Extraction. As we were developing Dead Space, we realized that there was so much of the story going untold. Dead Space Extraction tells that story with all of the intensity, blood and gore that fans would expect.“

I’m glad to see that they didn’t attempt a shoddy remake, and after enjoying Dead Space a lot I’ll certainly be giving the Wii version a try now.
Bit wary about it being an FPS though…

Looks like IGN are saying it is on-rails… nothing about that in the PR stuff though.

Ouch, really? That severely dampens my enthusiasm.. Why can we so rarely get a genuinely decent Wii port?

Why should the Wii be getting ports anyway, with one of the largest user bases surely it makes sense to produce the Wii title first then port to other systems?
